Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 66-year-old male that occurred at Greater El Monte Community Hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Kiyoshi Sekizawa.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Condition: IVDA with Hepatitis C

The medical examiner listed the decedent’s race/ethnicity as Vietnamese. His name appears to be Japanese actually. せきざわ きよし / セキザワ キヨシ

IVDA stands for intravenous drug abuse. Persons who inject illicit drugs are the group most severely affected by the hepatitis C epidemic but the least likely to receive treatment.

Although intravenous drug users comprise the majority of patients with chronic hepatitis C, most of them are excluded from treatment because of concerns about adherence to treatment and side effects.
