Julio Lugo, World Series Winner With Red Sox, Dead at 45 from Heart Attack

The shortstop who played four seasons with the Astros, including the 2001 playoff team, died of a heart attack at the age of 45, a day before his 46th birthday.

Lugo played for seven teams in his 12 seasons in the big leagues and won a World Series with the 2007 Red Sox.

Lugo was born November 16, 1975, in the Dominican Republic. He died in his homeland on November 15, 2021.

According to Dominican news media, Lugo had received two COVID shots.

With a population of about 11 million, the Dominican Republic has administered at least 13 million doses of COVID vaccines so far.

As early as July, there were already Dominicans receiving their third doses. The country received an additional 431,000 units of Pfizer biologics in mid-August.
