Mitral valve prolapse is a heart condition where one of the valves in the hear doesn’t close properly. People with Down syndrome are more likely to have heart issues, including MVP, than those without the syndrome. This is because Down syndrome can affect how the heart develops.
Ileus is a condition where the intestines stop working properly. Normally, the intestines move food and waste through the body using wave-like muscle contractions. But with ileus, these movements stop. This can happen after surgery on the belly or because of certain medications. It’s different from a blockage because there’s nothing physically stopping things from moving through the intestines – they just aren’t moving like they should.
