RIP JAMAR “JAY” THORNTON (January 15, 2003 – October 23, 2024)
Formal pronouncement of death was made on Wednesday at 12:25 a.m.
The government investigator had initially misspelled the decedent’s surname as Thorton.
It appears that two suspects were arrested hours after this crime — in Salt Lake City, Utah, where police used license-plate reader technology to spot the stolen white Mitsubishi Mirage that had been reported as the getaway vehicle.
Jasani Jakeil Johnson, 21, and Wynter Smith, 20, were arrested Thursday for theft and obstruction of justice. Both were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail, where they remained on Friday without bail.
While in custody, Smith told officers that she and Johnson “were in fact responsible for an aggravated murder in Los Angeles and took the vehicle in the commission of the homicide.”
