Cardiac arrest and heart attack are often confused due to their related nature, but they are fundamentally different medical emergencies with distinct causes. A heart attack (myocardial infarction) occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart is blocked, typically by a clot. In contrast, cardiac arrest is the sudden cessation of heart function, often due to an electrical malfunction.

Cardiopulmonary arrest is an acute event marked by the immediate loss of heart function, while congestive heart failure is a chronic condition that can lead to such acute events.

Pancytopenia is characterized by a significant reduction in all three types of blood cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This condition can lead to anemia (low red blood cells), increased risk of infections (due to low white blood cells), and excessive bleeding or bruising (from low platelets). Pancytopenia is not a disease itself but a laboratory finding that indicates an underlying issue, often related to problems with bone marrow production or increased destruction of blood cells. Common causes include nutritional deficiencies (like vitamin B12 or folate), autoimmune diseases, viral infections, exposure to certain drugs or toxins, and bone marrow disorders.
