(L.A.) Canaan Okatch, 26, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 26-year-old Black male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the man as Canaan Okatch.

Manner of Death: Homicide

Cause of Death: Gunshot Wound of Back

RIP CANAAN ORYEMA OKATCH (April 27, 1997 – July 11, 2023)

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Tuesday at 11:26 p.m.

The decedent was a homeless man in Long Beach. He was born in Kenya.

Officers had responded to the 900 block of Maine Avenue at around 11 p.m. for a “shots fired” call and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds lying on the ground near Loma Vista Drive and Corvo Court near Drake Park.

Paramedics took the wounded man to a hospital, where he died.

In August, police arrested two 18-year-old men and two boys in connection to the killing. Three or four of them had hit the victim and at least one of them fired a gun.
