(L.A.) Carlos Hayes, 50, Died in Recuperative Care

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a 50-year-old Black male that occurred at a recuperative-care facility.

The coroner’s office identified the man as Carlos Hayes.

Manner of Death: Accident

Cause of Death: Arteriosclerotic and Hypertensive Cardiovascular Disease

Other Significant Conditions: End-Stage Renal Disease Requiring Dialysis, Effects of Cocaine

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Monday at 7:25 a.m.

The Department of Medical Examiner publicly disclosed the CoD ruling on September 9, presumably after the results of tox screening had come back positive for the drug.

Recuperative care is a program that offers healthcare providers a safe place to discharge homeless patients when they no longer require hospitalization but still need to heal from an illness or injury.

Recuperative care is supposed to address the gap in healthcare for the homeless who are going back and forth between hospitals and the streets.
