(L.A.) Deon McMillian, a Baby, Died in a Hospital

Los Angeles County is reporting the death of a male that occurred in a hospital.

The coroner’s office has identified the infant boy as Deon McMillian and listed his race/ethnicity as Black + White/Caucasian.

Manner of Death: Undetermined

Cause of Death: Sudden Unexplained Infant Death

Other Significant Condition: Pulmonary Hemosiderosis of Unknown Etiology

Formal pronouncement of death was made on Thursday at 9:11 p.m.

Hemosiderosis is a term used for excessive accumulation of iron deposits (called hemosiderin) in the tissues with little or no damage to organs.

Out of over 160,000 death records made public by the county’s medical examiner since 1999, hemosiderosis has been mentioned only about five times.
