LAPD: Our Mistake, Singer Tom Petty Is Not Dead Yet
Yielding to TMZ’s greater reliability when it comes to reporting facts, the official Twitter account of the Los Angeles Police Department @LAPDHQ just tweeted an apology for its report that legendary singer Tom Petty has died.
Apparently, at around noon, an LAPD representative officially confirmed to mainstream media outlets like CBS the rumors circulating about the singer’s death.
The error produced a chain reaction that ended up with Wikipedia, then also Google, stating that the good man had already died on October 2, 2017.
Two hours after LAPD’s apology (with a misspelled word, no less), Wikipedia has corrected its entry, while Google is still showing him as dead in their knowledge card when a search for his name is made on the search engine.
Tom Petty is still alive at this very moment… barely, according to TMZ. He has been taken off life support after suffering a heart attack.
Thomas Earl Petty (born October 20, 1950) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. He is best known as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
