hyperthermia

About 150 people die every day in L.A. County, but during an extreme heat event the deaths increase by 8% to 30 percent.

The deaths may be directly attributed to the heat, though in many cases they will be logged as deaths due to a heart attack, stroke or respiratory failure.

Although the homeless represent about 70,000 of Los Angeles County’s approximately 10 million people, they account for nearly half — 5 in 12 — of deaths from heat illness or heat exposure.
